SANTA FE (KRQE) – An Animal Control investigation spiraled into a SWAT situation in Santa Fe Wednesday evening.

Police say the situation began at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the 800 block of South Calle Anaya when an Animal Control officer was responding to a call about an agressive dog and the dog’s owner pulled out a knife. SFPD was called to the scene and the man barricaded himself inside his home, SFPD says.

SFPD took two rottweiler dogs into custody and the suspect was arrested just before 10:30 p.m.

The suspect, who was identified as Stephen Cummings, 36, was arrested without incident and will face charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
