ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man accused of a string of armed robberies has pleaded guilty to federal firearm charges. He’s probably known best because he accidentally stabbed himself during one heist.

Under the plea agreement 37-year-old Elias Atencio will get at least a 22-year prison sentence because he was prosecuted as part of the “worst of the worst” program.

Santa Fe police say Atencio pulled off at least four robberies of fast food restaurants in one week alone.

During a robbery at a frozen yogurt store, he stabbed himself as he tried to open the door that a manager was holding shut.
