Teens indicted in homeless murders

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The three teens accused of murdering two homeless men in Albuquerque have been indicted on first-degree murder charges.

Police say 18-year-old Alex Rios, 16-year-old Nathaniel Carrillo and 15-year-old Gilbert Tafoya beat two homeless men with sticks and bricks as they slept on a mattress in a lot near 60th and Central last month.

They’re also accused of attacking a third man who got away.

All three teens were indicted Tuesday, each on at least 26-counts, including charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

The two homeless men were Native American, but the D.A. says there’s no evidence this was a hate crime.
