CLOVIS, N.M. (KRQE) – A Clovis middle school teacher accused of slapping one of her students has now been charged.

The victim’s father filed a police report against Brandi Thomas in April. He claims Thomas slapped the 7th grader across the face after he made a joke during gym class at Gattis Middle School. He said the slap left a visible red mark on his son’s cheek.

Thomas was put on leave for two days right after the incident.

Prosecutors won’t say what took so long, but they have now charged her with battery, petty misdemeanor.

She’s scheduled to be in court later this month.
