ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A man accused of robbing a Smith’s cashier at gunpoint claims he never asked for the money but the clerk just gave it to him.
Albuquerque police say Sunday a cashier told them Patrick Silva said he had a gun and would shoot her if she didn’t turn over the money. He ran out of the Smith’s on Coors and Central with more than $1,600.
Police found Silva at a nearby gas station laying in the bed of a pickup.
Silva has a different story. He told police he asked for change and when he went to scratch his stomach, the cashier thought he was robbing her and handed him the money.
Silva told police anyone handed lots of cash would take it and run.
He’s being held on a $10,000 cash or surety bond.
