ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A Wal-Mart employee was stabbed and another injured after they attempted to stop a man from stealing merchandise from the store.
APD said Omar Leyba was stabbed multiple times when he tried to stop a man who was trying to leave the store with a cooler full of DVDs. When Leyba approached the man, he was attacked. That is when two other employees, Donne DeLong and Sayed Sahibzada, ran to help.
As the attack continued, Sahibzada suffered a broken nose. The men were finally able to stop the attack and the suspect fled in a gray SUV.
Detectives identified the owner of the SUV as 28-year-old April Mondragon who they say is associated with Joaquin Holmes, 31. APD says Holmes has been tied to previous incidents and was also identified in surveillance video.
Holmes was arrested Wednesday and booked into MDC for two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault, felony larceny and conspiracy.
Mondragon was also arrested on three outstanding warrants, conspiracy and felony larceny.
