‘Topes, Aces brawl makes national headlines

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – From the push to the punches to the clearing of the benches – it was all caught on video.

The brawl Saturday night between the Isotopes and Reno Aces is gaining attention all over the web.

“We got a full on melee here at Aces Ballpark,” one announcer said during the game.

From the broadcast booth in Reno and from behind home plate, the whole thing was caught on camera

It all started when ‘Topes infielder Erisbel Arruebarrena shoved the Aces catcher and then threw his helmet at him.

It went from words being exchanged to punches.

By Sunday, news outlets from all over were running with the story, from Toronto, to ESPN and websites in the Big Apple.

Back in the Duke City, fans can’t help but keep watching the viral video.

A few say they haven’t seen a fight like this one in a while. Others say while it makes for a good story, it doesn’t exactly make the players look good.

“It was pretty intense,” Isotopes fan Derrick Prieto said.

“Be a good sport about stuff and not like get all mad and start boxing for whatever reason,” another fan, Jaleel Butler said.

At least one video that’s been posted on YouTube has nearly 115,000 views. Others have anywhere from 1,000 to 20,000.
