New scheme involves U.S. Marshal impersonator

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Someone is pretending to be with the U.S. Marshals Service and is trying to steal residents’ money.

The marshals have received a number of reports of someone calling people in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, telling them to pay a fine for a family member who’s in jail or hasn’t paid taxes.

The Marshals Service says it never asks for money on the phone. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
