New hotel coming to Old Town

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Old town will soon be home to a new, multi-million dollar boutique hotel.

It will be built next to Hotel Albuquerque and will share the hotel’s pool, ballrooms and chapel.

The new hotel also shares hotel Albuquerque’s owner and representatives with the group say it’s exactly what Old Town needs.

The hotel will be five stories, house 118 rooms and span 120,000 square feet with a rooftop terrace, conference facilities and a spa.

Heritage leaders say the architecture will celebrate New Mexico’s culture and will focus on Chaco Canyon.

Leaders say the goal of adding the new hotel is to develop Old Town from a hotel standpoint and will mean an overall total of 300 rooms in the area, when you factor in Hotel Albuquerque’s 188.

They say it will also bring 200 new jobs and stimulate the economy by welcoming more tourism to what they call the city’s “ground zero for tourists.”

The design firm heading the project is the same one working on the Shanghai tower – China’s tallest building.

The new hotel doesn’t have a name yet, but there’s still time since it’s not set to be completed until spring of 2016.
