Victim in helicopter crash laid to rest

SANTA FE (KRQE) – One of the three people killed in a medical helicopter crash near Santa Fe was buried Sunday.

Family and friends said their final goodbyes to flight paramedic Rebecca Serkey in her hometown of Fort Lee, N.J.

Serkey, flight nurse Jamie Butler and pilot David Cavigneaux were flying from Christus St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe two weeks ago to pick up a patient in Tucumcari. They never made it.

Wreckage of their helicopter was found hours later on a rocky mesa off I-40 near Newkirk.

The FAA and NTSB are still investigating.

As part of Serkey’s funeral, officials closed Main Street in Fort Lee to allow a procession of hundreds of friends and family, police officers and emergency responders. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
