2 killed, 1 child injured in DWI crash

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A suspected drunk driving crash overnight killed one adult and one child, and left another child fighting for its life at UNM Hospital.

Bernalillo County sheriff’s deputies say the driver, 41-year-old Carlos Rosales-Polanco, was traveling in a truck northbound on Coors near Rio Bravo on Saturday night with his two kids and a female passenger inside.

That’s when witnesses say the truck suddenly sped up, hit a raised median and rolled into a field.

The female passenger, 30-year-old Adriana Chavez-Miranda, was killed.

Rosales-Polanco and two children, ages 10 and 1 1/2, were rushed to UNM Hospital where the 1 1/2-year-old succumbed to his injuries and died.

Deputies say it does appear alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.

Roasles-Polanco will be OK. He has been released from the hospital and booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center for vehicular homicide.

The crash shut down southbound Coors until about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
