Thousands of signatures needed for SF pot proposal

SANTA FE (KRQE) – A pot proposal in Santa Fe has failed to get enough signatures needed to get the measure on the November ballot there.

Earlier this month, the Drug Policy Alliance submitted more than 7,000 signatures to the city clerk.

It turns out about half of those signatures were invalid. That means the group still needs about 2,200 more registered voters to sign the petition, to get the measure on the ballot.

But the group still has time for petitioners to collect more signatures.

The proposal lowers pot penalties to just a $25 fine and no jail time.
