GALLUP, N.M. (KRQE) – A New Mexico Medal of Honor recipient will be immortalized on a stamp.

Gallup resident, Hiroshi Miyamura, will be part of the new Korean War Medal of Honor stamp sheet.

In 1951, Miyamura was an Army corporal and machinegun squad leader in Korea.

As an enemy force moved in, he ordered his men to retreat, then stayed behind and killed 50 of the enemy to cover his comrades.

He was wounded, captured and was held a prisoner of war for more than 2 years.

An official unveiling of the stamp will be held Saturday in Arlington.
