ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A major milestone in the effort to save and revitalize an important part of Albuquerque’s past was met Thursday.
Mayor Berry signed agreements that allow the redevelopment of the Albuquerque Rail Yards to begin.
He wants to bring the historic rail yards to life with new tenants and events.
He is counting on the redevelopment to spur economic activity not just in the nearby Barelas and south Broadway neighborhoods, but across the city.
The developers shared their vision Thursday.
“It’s been a long time coming, but we love this place. We’re going to give it our utmost attention and love, to make it turn around to what it used to be and to also make it a world class attraction,” said Railyards Developer Lauri Samitaur-Smith.
The mayor says the development will happen slowly, over the course of years, as the developer finds the right balance of commercial tenants, housing and events.
