ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – It just didn’t happen soon enough. The efforts to find a bone marrow match for a New Mexico teen fell short.
News 13 is told that 16-year-old Miquela Martinez died Tuesday.
She was from Ojo Caliente and suffered from a rare disease that attacks blood produced in her bone marrow.
A number of bone marrow donor drives were held to try to find a match for Martinez, a registered donor was found, but couldn’t be located.
Supporters say they’ll continue to hold donor drives in Martinez’s honor, hoping to save someone else’s life.
