Man who left son in hot car says he forgot him

Joshua Grothaus is facing child abuse charges after he left his young son in a hot car. Grothaus says he forgot about him.

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The man who left his 18-month-old son in a hot SUV Monday evening told deputies he forgot the little boy was there.

Joshua Grothaus, 36, was arrested for child abuse and bonded out of jail Tuesday afternoon.

Someone noticed his son in the SUV at a parking lot on Isleta Boulevard and broke a window to get him out.

Deputies say he was crying and soaked in sweat.

Grothaus had gone to pick up his wife who was at a nearby health fair and says he went looking for her and forgot about the child.
