Campground closes due to flooding concerns

SILVER CITY, N.M. (KRQE) – The recent rain is causing concern in the areas burned by last year’s signal fire.

The fire was just outside Silver City in the Gila Wilderness and burned about 5500 acres.

With recent rains, officials are concerned about flooding so they’ve closed cherry creek and McMillan Campgrounds located off Highway 15.

They say the low entrances could cause visitors to become trapped.

All other campgrounds remain open in the Silver City Ranger District.
