Michael Cooper

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Early stage tongue cancer has forced former Lakers and Lobo great Michael Cooper to take a leave from his head coaching job with the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream. Cooper is scheduled for surgery in Atlanta this week and is expected to make a full recovery.

Cooper said he was fortunate to get an early diagnosis. He also stressed the importance of getting screened for early detection. Cooper’s Atlanta Dream team leads the WNBA East Division with a 15 and 6 record.
