EL MALPAIS NATIONAL MONUMENT, N.M. (KRQE) – Firefighters from the National Park Service, El Malpais National Monument and the Mount Taylor Ranger District are monitoring a 52-acre fire burning about a half mile northeast of Lost Woman Crater.

Officials say the fire was caused by lightning and reported Friday, July 18.

Flames are 1 to 2 feet high, according to officials.
