ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Saturday marks the anniversary of one of New Mexico’s most horrific child abuse cases.

Community members in Albuquerque gathered at Tingley Beach to remember the loss of a special little girl.

Briana Lopez was a 5-month-old Doña Ana girl, raped and beaten by her father and uncle back in 2002.

The founders of the Baby Briana Foundation hosted the public event to commemorate Baby Bri’s tragic death 12 years ago.

Her story has struck people across the world and has become a catalyst for preventing child abuse.

Saturday, participants released white doves into the air to honor Baby Briana’s innocence and help those currently affected by child abuse. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
