Kids learn from SWAT, K-9 units at Jr. Police Academy

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – It was a long way down for a group of kids learning first hand what it takes to become a cop.

About 60 kids from all over Albuquerque are participating in the Junior Police Academy, spending the week in police training.

Thursday they learned how to rappel.

The academy is for kids who have an interest in being in law enforcement when they grow up.

It’s a fun way for them to experience what cadets go through in the academy.

The kids, ages 9 to 16, also learned from the SWAT team and the K-9 unit.

Another 70 kids will go through the academy next week. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
