Wednesday marks 69th anniversary of 1st atomic explosion


ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Wednesday marks a historic anniversary for New Mexico and the world.

The first nuclear bomb was detonated as part of the Manhattan Project 69 years ago.

The atomic explosion took place at the Trinity Site which is now the White Sands Missile Range.

The test is known as being the start of the atomic age.

The Trinity Site is now a national historic landmark open to the public once a year.
