Man shot, injured in Rio Rancho

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – Rio Rancho police say someone shot into a house several times overnight, sending one man to the hospital.

Now police are searching for a suspect.

Police say they were called out to the area of Plata and Pecos Loop near Southern and Unser around 3:45 a.m.

According to police, a caller reported someone had shot into his house, hitting his roommate.

When police arrived, they did find a man in his 50s with apparent gunshot wounds inside the house.

Police say he was alert and conscious when they found him.

That man was taken to UNM Hospital for treatment, and his condition is unknown at this time.

Police say they have not had problems with the home before, and they do not have a suspect yet.

“We have no suspect information at all. We don’t know who was involved other than the victim at this point, and we are gathering witness information,” said Lt. Brett Denison of Rio Rancho Police.

Police couldn’t say if they think this was a random crime or if the victim knew the shooter.

Police say neighbors haven’t reported hearing or seeing anything overnight.

The scene is still active, and police expect to be there into the afternoon.
