Hearing planned for ex-cop’s reinstallment

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A former Albuquerque police officer who was fired for kicking a man over and over on camera could find out if he can be a cop again.

The Law Enforcement Academy Board is set to have a recertification hearing Wednesday for John Doyle.

He and Robert Woolever were fired after the video got out of Doyle kicking Nicholas Blume in the head in a parking garage in 2011.

Doyle says he didn’t mean to kick Blume in the head, and that he was trying to kick Blume’s arm out from under him to make sure he didn’t have a weapon.

Both Doyle and Woolever are now suing the city to get their jobs back.
