Former Sandia AD announces retirement

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The former Sandia High School Athletic Director suspected of trying to get one of his coaches in trouble, has now retired from APS.

KRQE News 13 reported last month that Tom Knauber was being investigated after drug paraphernalia mysteriously turned up in the office of boys’ basketball Coach Alvin Broussard.

Security camera video showed Knauber returning to the campus during spring break and walking down a hall to Broussard’s office with what appears to be a bag.

When he leaves, he doesn’t have the bag.

A few days later Knauber claimed he got an anonymous phone call that Broussard had drug paraphernalia in his office.

He then led APS police officers to it.

But they were suspicious and began investigating Knauber.

APS later removed him from the Sandia job but let him take a teacher job at another school.

Then he was hired as Dean of Students at a charter school but ended up not going there either.

Now News 13 learned he’s officially retiring.

The DA’s office is still deciding whether he’ll face criminal charges.
