CEBOLLA, N.M. (KRQE) – A woman is dead and her boyfriend behind bars, after a bizarre DWI crash.

Police say 42-year-old Richard Trujillo and his girlfriend, 28-year-old Lisa Espinoza, were drinking Friday at a bar in Cebolla, New Mexico, south of Chama.

Police say when the couple left the bar in Trujillo’s truck, Espinoza reached down to grab something that had fallen out of the moving truck and fell out.

She was then run over.

Trujillo took her to a hospital in Espanola, more than 60 miles away where she died from trauma to her head and upper body.

When officers went to talk to Trujillo they smelled alcohol and arrested him for DWI and vehicular homicide.

He was booked in the Rio Arriba County Detention Center.
