New Mexico residents will be able to enter a contest to make a film about space exploration. The winner receives $5,000 to produce the short film.

The documentary will benefit Lockheed Martin’s public outreach about human space exploration. But it will also be a plus for the state’s film industry.

“The mission of the New Mexico Film Foundation is to help grow the independent film industry here in nm while offering financial assistance and education opportunities.”

The New Mexico Film Foundation and space industry experts will pick the winner.

Residents can enter starting Tuesday through August 15.

The winner will be announced at the end of August. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
