CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) — Clovis police have made an arrest in the shooting death of a man found inside a vacant home.

Police say Eric Valdez was taken into custody Friday evening on an unrelated charge and admitted to shooting 33-year-old Jose Barrera.

Barrera, who had a gunshot wound to the head, was found Monday in a bathroom.

Valdez says he and Barrera got into a fight about the suspect’s daughter, who is a minor. Police did not give additional details.

Police say Barrera had a Tucumcari address on his driver’s license but recently had been living in Clovis as a transient.

Valdez has been charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.

He is being held in Curry County Detention Center on $100,000 bond.
