ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Albuquerque police say the parents of the two young children put them in a very dangerous situation.
Police said it all started when an undercover detective answered an ad for an escort.
Jodeci Smith, 21, is charged with abandonment or abuse of a child and conspiracy to commit a second degree felony. Her boyfriend, 29-year-old Ruben Lave is facing the same charges plus promoting prostitution.
According to the criminal complaint, the undercover cop met up with smith at the Ramada on Yale and Gibson.
The complaint says Smith offered a sexual act in exchange for money and that’s when cops moved in to make the arrest.
Police say Lave was found inside the waiting car that Smith pulled up in. Also in the car were their two kids, a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old.
According to a criminal complaint, when detectives asked about their two children in the backseat they said they didn’t have a sitter.
Police say Lave let Smith post the escort ad from his phone and takes some of the money for himself.
The two appeared in court Saturday morning where a judge told Lave what he thought about all of this.
“Given the nature of the allegations and this gentleman’s history and specifically allegation that children were exposed to this type of alleged conduct, I’m going to set the bond at $15,000 cash or surety.” Judge Daniel Ramczyk said.
Lave told police he knew what his girlfriend was doing and this wasn’t the first time.
Police said the kids were also sitting in the hot car without air conditioning.
