ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The dream is to one day win Olympic golf and some may say 14-year-old Jordan Byrd is well on his way.
Byrd has been running since he was 5, and has held records in the 100 and 200 m races. Currently, Byrd holds the fastest time in the country in the 100.
“I like running the 100 because it’s a short distance and I like to get it over with easily.” Byrd said.
Although Byrd flies past his competition in the 100, his coach Adria Green thinks the 200 is by far his best race. Green ran track for ASU.
“The 200 in my opinion is his best race. He looks absolutely beautiful doing it, the 100 is great as well but there’s something about the 2 that is helping him set records so it’s really special.” said Green. “he’s extremely focused and hard working and dedicated to his craft. He wants to be better, and that’s hard to find.”
The USA Junior Olympics begins on July 23rd in Houston, TX. A fundraiser to help raise funds for Byrd will be held on July 19th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Navajo Elks Lodge located at1521 Broadway Blvd. SE.
