Trial date set for woman in Taos van shooting

Oriana Farrell

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The mother whose van was shot at by state police after a traffic stop gone wrong is heading for trial.

Oriana Farrell is charged with child abuse and aggravated fleeing for that chaotic October 2013 traffic stop.

Farrell was stopped for speeding near Taos but drove off.

That’s when the officer pulled her out of a car, pulled a Taser on her son and bashed out a window.

Another officer fired at the fleeing minivan.

Farrell was later indicted on charges for allegedly putting her children in danger.

She asked that the charges be dismissed because of irregularities in the grand jury process. A judge denied the motion in May but Farrell appealed.

Court documents show the judge has denied that appeal and set a trial date in October. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
