Firm partners with UNM to develop RX drugs

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An investment firm is partnering up with the University of New Mexico to bring drugs developed at UNM one step closer to the market.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, Sunbelt Technologies, a Nevada based investment firm signed an option to license up to 21 potential pharmaceuticals developed at UNM’s Center for Molecular Discovery.

The center uses advanced screenings technology which allows researchers to quickly analyze and identify promising therapies.

A newly formed local startup company, Accelera Diagnostics has also invested $1 million to screen those they feel they can market.

Accelera will first focus on new pharmaceuticals for diagnosis and treatment for stroke as well as drugs to fight ovarian cancer.
