Names released, details slim in marshal shooting

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A few more details have been released about the deadly U.S. Marshal shooting that happened earlier this month in Albuquerque – specifically who was involved.

A city official confirms it was Deputy Marshal Kenneth Daniel who shot and killed Anthony Chavez on July 2 at a home near Dennis Chavez and 98th Street.

Officials say Chavez was on probation for transporting people illegally into the United States.

The Albuquerque Police Department is leading the investigation into the shooting. Albuquerque officers also were working with the marshals as part of a fugitive task force when the shooting occurred.

Officials haven’t said if Chavez threatened the marshal or what led up to the shooting. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
