ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – New Mexico is known for film but how about reality shows? For one of the state’s most famous spots to eat, it’s an idea that’s on the table.
They’re known for their salsa and atmosphere. Soon, El Pinto could add reality show to that list.
“New Mexico is an iconic location in the United States and El Pinto is the largest New Mexican restaurant in the world so it’s a great location,” David Evilsizor, director of marketing said.
The North Valley restaurant and its owners, John and Jim Thomas, known as the “Salsa Twins,” have teamed up with Media Meld studios and Smart Skirts Entertainment to begin filming on location.
Known nationwide for their salsa, which is canned on-site, El Pinto says they were approached by multiple people wanting to film a reality show.
The focus here will be the restaurant, which has seen its fair share of celebrities, and the owners.
El Pinto has been around for more than 60 years and this, they say, is definitely a first.
“We’re still in the process of shooting a pilot episode,” Evilsizor said. “We’ll then be working to take it to Los Angeles to sell it to some of the networks out there.”
After filming the pilot episode, the hope is to begin more shooting late next month. As for a name for the show, that’s still up in the air.
