ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An Albuquerque couple was in court Wednesday to face child abuse charges after their 5-year-old daughter was rescued from their hot truck Tuesday.
According to court documents 41-year-old Dulces Monge-Perez and 39-year-old Angelica Lerma-Montoya told officers they didn’t know their daughter was with them on the shopping trip at Home Depot.
But, after being rushed to the hospital the little girl told police her parents ordered her to stay in the hot truck while they went shopping, as punishment for not eating earlier in the day.
Witnesses rescued the little girl Tuesday afternoon after seeing her trying to crawl out of the back window of the truck at the Eubank Home Depot.
They say the truck had been there for at least an hour, with the windows rolled up in 90 degree heat.
They say the girl was crying and sweating profusely.
The parents were still shopping when they were paged to come outside.
The little girl was treated for heat exposure.
They will have to post a $40,000 cash or surety bond each to get out of jail.
