Santa Fe bicycle underpass construction delayed

SANTA FE (KRQE) – The building of a new bicycle underpass in Santa Fe has been delayed because of concerns over money.

The project at St. Francis Drive and west Alameda was to be built using about $2 million in general obligations bond.

The project comes amid growing concerns about bicyclist’s safety.

There have been two deadly bicycle accidents involving the Rail Runner in the last few months.

City councilors now want to hold a public hearing on funding for the new underpass, because the $2 million wouldn’t be spent the way voters were told it would be when they approved it in 2012.

There will now be a public hearing on June 28th.
