Wildfire sparks in Jemez Mountains


JEMEZ MOUNTAINS, N.M. (KRQE) – Officials say a new wildfire is burning in the Jemez Mountains on Monday.

The Bear Springs Fire was spotted by a firefighting plane on patrol around 12:30 p.m.

It’s burning four miles southeast of the Paliza Campground and northeast of the small community of Ponderosa.

Fire officials say the smoke can be seen from I-25.

At this point, the blaze is estimated at about 10 acres.

No structures are threatened.

The cause is under investigation.
