ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – CNM is getting ready to offer courses in beer making.

The college says the CNM Brewing Academy is in the works and classes could start as soon as this fall.

New Mexico is home to dozens of microbreweries with Albuquerque quickly becoming a destination for beer makers. School officials said they wanted to prepare students for a new trade.

”It’s not necessarily that we’re keenly interested in beer. It’s more that we’re interested in brewing as an industry for our economic growth,” said Samantha Sengel of the CNM Communications Department.

CNM said the program would be hands-on, with students having opportunities to work in breweries and distilleries and learn from local crafters. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
