Men caught on camera stealing pricey sunglasses

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – It was a brazen theft, and now Albuquerque Crime Stoppers has made it the crime of the week.

Surveillance video from inside Solarius Spa in northwest Albuquerque captured it in early June. A man walks in, checks out the goods, and hangs out inside for several minutes before pocketing two pairs of Gucci sunglasses and hightailing it out.

Just days later at Solarius in the Heights, another man was caught on camera checking out sunglasses before bringing in his friend – the same guy from the first theft.

“It’s very clearly seen on the video, so it’s not like, well, we’re not sure if it’s them. No, it’s as obvious as can be,” Solaris manager Scott Bushey told KRQE News 13.

He says the two men pocketed two pairs of Maybach sunglasses, which run about $2,000 a pop. He says in total, they took about $5,500 in merchandise.

Bushey says the two came back again. This time he took off after them while an employee called police. The pair got away, but now Crime Stoppers has made finding them the priority.

Bushey says he hopes the two wind up behind bars; in the meantime, he says they’ve tightened security at Solarius.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to an arrest in the crimes.
