ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Illegal fireworks got a lot of people in trouble this Fourth of July.

KRQE News 13 rode along with AFD fire marshals Friday as they went out looking for those breaking the law.

AFD says the agency received more than 1,200 calls about people sparking illegal fireworks overnight.

Officials cited 17 people which is 10 more citations issued than last year despite the number of calls then being higher.

Albuquerque Fire Chief David Downey says the agency is pleased that the overall report of illegal fireworks decreased from last year. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
