LANL admits mistakes were made in waste packaging

LOS ALAMOS, N.M. (KRQE) – Los Alamos National Lab says it did make mistakes in packaging the waste linked to the radiation leak at the WIPP site near Carlsbad.

In a letter released by state regulators, lab officials say their internal probe of the handling of the toxic waste from decades of nuclear bomb building uncovered several violations.

But lab officials say it’s unclear if those are to blame for the February leak that contaminated 22 workers.

Teams of scientists have been trying to determine exactly what caused a barrel from Los Alamos to burst. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
