ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A number of state parks are expected to reopen just in time for the Fourth of July.

El Vado Lake and Heron Lake State Park will reopen to the public Thursday.

Those areas offer day use and camping opportunities.

Some other areas will still remain closed due to low water levels.

State park officials are reminding those to be responsible with fire and to remind campers that fireworks are prohibited even on the Fourth of July. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
