New fire reported in Carson National Forest

Wildfire smoke

TAOS, N.M. (KRQE) – Officials say the lightning from Tuesday night’s storm caused a fire on the Questa Ranger District.

The Flag Fire is currently burning 1/10 of an acre and is located about 200 feet below the peak of Flag Mountain.

The terrain where the fire is burning is steep with a high concentration of dead trees.

Because lightning and rain is expected Wednesday, officials say air crafts will not be used to fight the flames at this time due to safety concerns. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
