John’s Wednesday Afternoon Forecast

More storms are expected this afternoon and evening. Much like yesterday, storms will initially develop over the higher terrain, then push into the lower elevation communities. The eastern plains will watch for storms developing across the central mountain chain, while the Rio Grande Valley will watch the west central mountains and Gila. Some storms make take until the evening hours to develop. Locally heavy rain and gusty winds will be possible with some storms.

Afternoon storms continue for Thursday. However, with less steering flow, many storms will develop and not move much. This will lead to flash flooding, particularly over burn scars. Over the holiday weekend, the atmosphere goes into recycle mode with no new moisture entering the state. There will still be some storms each afternoon through the weekend, but overall coverage will become more and more sparse. The higher terrain will continue to be the favored locations for storms. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
