After a brutal stretch of heat most of New Mexico is finally feeling the relief of the monsoon flow. Moisture pushed into the state from a powerful cold front from Northeast to Southwest during the early morning hours on Tuesday. That cold front is packing moisture as well so once we add the heat of the day it will touch off thunderstorms over next few days.
In addition, a moist southerly flow will help to add more juice to the mix. This should allow for decent crop of storms into the holiday weekend.
The onset of more widespread storms comes at a critical time. temperatures topped out the triple digits in most areas of the state earlier this week. Needless to say we badly need the moisture. With fires burning as well it will really help to have additional showers across the mountain areas.
