ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – It’s clear from the newly released APS Police report that cops did not buy the former Sandia High School athletics director’s story about receiving an anonymous tip that the basketball coach was hiding drug paraphernalia in his office.
The police report also gives a motive for why AD Tom Knauber may have been trying to get rid of Coach Alvin Broussard.
Knauber’s son was a star basketball player.
Broussard told police Knauber said he wanted his son to take Boussard’s place and Broussard told Knauber he wasn’t going anywhere. Two weeks later, Broussard found himself in the middle of a scandal.
“Coach Broussard is happy that this evidence has finally been released because the evidence clears his name,” said his attorney Leon Howard.
Security video showed Knauber going into Broussard’s office with a bag a few days before the allegations he made in April and coming out empty handed.
APD Police said there’s no direct evidence that Knauber tried to frame Broussard, but said there are a number of circumstantial facts that cannot be ignored.
APS said that this never was a criminal investigation against Knauber, it was simply an informational investigation. They did, however, confirm they sent the case to the District Attorney, who’s deciding if Knauber should be charged for framing the coach.
