Angel Fire eyed for possible veteran’s cemetery

ANGEL FIRE, N.M. (KRQE) – The governor is talking about Angel Fire as a possible site for a new veteran’s cemetery.

The town is already home to the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial State Park and the cemetery would sit right next to it.

Right now New Mexico only has two veterans’ cemeteries, one in Santa Fe the other in Fort Bayard.

The governor has been pushing to build more cemeteries so families don’t have to travel so far.

The choices are subject to approval by the Veteran’s Affairs Department.

The state has already approved $600,000 in initial funding for the project, once approved the federal government would pick up some of the cost.
