The collision happened near the intersection of Navajo and U.S. 62 in Hobbs.

State Police say officer Carlos Verdugo, who was in the vehicle when the driver slammed into his car, was air transported to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas. He has since been released and will recover at home for an undetermined amount of time.

The female driver who Verdugo stopped was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
