Roswell volunteers cleanup neglected cemetery

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – There’s more cemetery trouble in Roswell.

A plot of land just east of city limits is supposed to be a place to put loved ones to rest but residents say it’s been completely neglected.

The conditions are so bad, headstones are buried nearly half a foot under the earth, and weeds cover a majority of the flowers left behind.

Friday, volunteers worked endless hours to help clean the area.

The cemetery is in the county, but county officials say it’s not their responsibility to maintain it.

The person in charge of it tells KRQE News 13, he doesn’t have any money to care for it and that’s why it looks the way it does.
