KAFB hosts LGBT pride picnic

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An historic moment at Kirtland Air Force Base as it held its first LGBT pride picnic.

Dozens of civilian and soldiers gathered to honor the contributions of the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender community.

The event was made possible after the president repealed the “don’t ask don’t tell” policy last year.
Air force officials directed Kirtland and other bases to add pride month to the existing list of seven special observances.

People who attended says it’s about coming together for each other.

Kirtland says they will hold the picnic every year.
